COVID-19 Update: Six Practical Steps We Are Taking

Thursday, March 26, 2020 • John Cole • Announcements

Dear Church Family,

Please know that our family is praying for each of you throughout this time. We do not want anyone in the church to be without necessities or to feel alone as we are unable to gather in person. If you or anyone you know is in need, please contact me so we can be of assistace.

Let us remain faithful to Christ through this. I trust we will. With the victory we already have in Christ, how could we not remain steadfast?

57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:57â°"58

As it has been said, "The darker the night, the brighter the light." May we be shining lights within Alexandria and our immediate neighborhoods. Consider the words of Christ, in which Jesus' disciples are told they are the light of the world.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Matthew 5:14

With these truths in mind, I want to share practical steps we are taking as a church to continue in fellowship throughout the COVID-19 State of Emergency.

Practical Steps

Our current plan to continue in Gospel fellowship as a church includes utilizing live and archived online videos, online giving, texting, calling, and possibly group video calls. Many have been checking on fellow members and praying together. Some have so kindly purchased and dropped off care packages with groceries and gifts. Rose Hill Baptist Church is showing itself to be a steadfast, loving church family, and that is a testament to Christ's work through our members and pastors for many years.

1) Our church pastors and officers are meeting by video conference weekly to pray for and discuss the ongoing course we take as a church throughout the COVID-19 State of Emergency.

Your health, both spiritual and physical, is important to us. Please pray the Lord gives us wisdom. It is our prayer that we always operate wisely and with faith in God.

Currently, we plan to meet as a church only by way of live stream video until further notice. We will keep you informed if this changes as we continue to meet.

We also welcome your calls with any questions. Your input is desired and will be heard. You can also email us.

2) We will continue connecting together online around prayer, song, and God's Word.

Thank you for your patience as we had technical issues in our first live stream service last Sunday. It is a learning curve for us all, but we are confident this coming Sunday's live stream will be smoother.  We will continue to take steps and make corrections, getting better each time.

Recent and new live stream videos may be found at:

Sundays @10:45 AM | Live Video

Join us live online for encouragement, prayer, song, and Bible study.

Sundays @6:00 PM | Text Message

Look for a text message with a Scripture passage to read, discuss, and pray about with your family or over the phone with another member.

Wednesdays @7:30 PM | Live Video

Join us live online for the latest church news and a Bible study focused on helping us go through this time with a biblical perspective.

If you miss a live video, please keep in mind that recent and new live stream videos may still be found at, even after the fact. We understand not everyone will be able to participate during all these times, but we do hope all will find these helpful in keeping our church in fellowship.

If you know someone who is unsure how to watch services online, I would like to encourage you to either assist them with learning how or to talk with them afterward over the phone to help them stay informed and involved.

3) We set up online and text giving as options for our continued giving to the Lord.

We understand some may choose to wait until we meet again before they give, and yet others will mail in checks for their giving. Please know that officers of the church will continue to count, record, and deposit checks at least weekly throughout this time, even while we are not gathering in person.

In addition to processing mailed in checks, we prioritized creating the options of online and text giving during this time as we believe there are a number who would appreciate this service. With online giving, you can even set up recurring giving. You may easily give online here:

For text giving, simply text (703) 782-3396 and respond to the text prompts.

With both online and text giving, you can give by way of electronic check (ACH) or debit/credit card. We recommend giving by way of electronic check to help the church pay fewer fees to the payment merchant.

4) We will continue to send church text messages to keep you informed.

While we will be careful not to overload you with texts, this is an efficient way to provide you with the latest church news before it gets outdated. In the near future, we will likely add email subscription options for those who would like articles like this, as well as sermons and blogs, to be emailed to them.

Would you consider adding 874-47 as a Rose Hill Baptist Church phone number in your mobile contacts? This will help you quickly identify the text as coming from your church. You may also want to add the church text giving number provided above.

If you are not receiving text messages from our church and would like to receive them, you are welcome to call or text me directly or to contact the church

5) Let's continue to make personal phone calls to check on and pray with one another.

Martha and I have already enjoyed calling many of you, and we will continue to call. I would like to also encourage the entire church to contact one another, as appropriate. We do not want anyone to feel unloved or alone during this time. May it always be said that Rose Hill Baptist Church loves people.

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

John 13:35

6) We are considering adding group video calls for group discussion (up to 100 people) on Wednesdays.

We are not yet offering video calls to avoid starting too many new methods of communication at once. However, I wanted you to be aware we are considering this in case it does interest you. Even if there were just a few that would like to have group video calls together, I would be happy to get that set up. We would likely use either Zoom or Facebook Messenger.

Continued Fellowship

As we saw recently in Philippians 1:1-8, we can continue in faithful fellowship as a church even when we are geographically separated. Paul, Timothy, and the Philippian believers enjoyed more than a decade of fellowship in the Gospel, and most of the time they were apart from each other. Much of the time, they were enduring difficulties.

We can be confident that God will continue the work He is doing in us until the day of Jesus Christ. God knows all things, and He works all things for the good of making us more like Jesus. With that said, we can praise God for the hardship we are going through and look forward to how He will use it to do His work in us and glorify Himself!

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

May we continue in fellowship, whether by phone, online, or care-package door delivery! Christ is worthy.

Let's also be in prayer for our government leaders and health care providers. I am grateful for their service to us, and I am glad we are cooperating with them as a church to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Let us also remember to pray for our neighbors and for servants of Christ around the world going through difficulties. God is faithful, and He will help us through it.

Let us know how we can serve you.

With love in Christ,

John Cole
