Acts 1:4-5 | God's Promised Presence

Sunday, September 13, 2020 • • Holy Spirit
God has promised His presence to His children. How is this accomplished? Look with us at Jesus' promise to His disciples.

Before ascending back to Heaven, Jesus had promised His followers that He would be with them always (Matthew 28:20).  What did He mean by this?  How would this happen?  How does this relate to us today?

Acts 1:4-5   4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

WAIT (vs. 2)

Wait in                                                   .

The promise of the                              .

John 14:25-26  25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The promise you heard about from                               .

John 14:16-17  16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Also See: 7:37-39; 15:26-27; 16:7-15.

The promise declared by               the                       (Matthew 3:11-12)

Wait for the promise to be fulfilled                              (Acts 2:1-3)

Happens for believers at                                           .

Ephesians 1:13-14  13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Romans 8:9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Unites believers with                                   .

1 Corinthians 6:17  But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.              Also see: Romans 6:3-4; Colossians 2:9-12; Titus 1:4-7.

Brings believers into the                               of Christ.

Galatians 3:26-28  26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.  Also see: John 17:11, 21-23.

The Holy Spirit is                  , equal with the Father and the Son.

Matthew 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Also see: Genesis 1:2; Psalm 51:11; 138:7; Isaiah 63:10; Mark 1:10-11; Acts 5:3-4; 1 Corinthians 2:10-11; 12:11; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; Ephesians 4:30; Hebrews 9:14.

The Holy Spirit came upon followers of God before, but now He would                               believers who have been purified by Christ.

1 Corinthians 6:19  What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?                       Also see: Romans 8:15-17; Colossians 1:27; 1 John 3:23-24; 4:15.

Being an obedient follower of Christ often means we wait on God's timing.  Being a true follower of Christ means we have been baptized into Christ and His body by His Spirit and that the Holy Spirit dwells in us.  Being indwelled by the Holy Spirit means followers of Christ always have God's presence in them.  Consider what Jesus said here:  John 3:1-8.

1. We                                      on God's timing.

2. We                                      within Christ's Body.

3. We                                      by God's presence.
