We gather to worship the Lord, build up His church, and give witness to His gospel. Teaching and applying God's Word in scripture is the centerpiece of our gathering. In response to scripture, we sing and pray several times throughout the service. We sing a good mix of biblically-sound hymns and songs that span generations of Christians from centuries ago to newly written songs by Christians today. Prayers are led by various members in the church. We come ready to encourage one another in the gospel.
We aspire to be a church that centers our preparation, conduct, and order of worship on God and His gospel, not on ourselves. We pray that our worship service strikes a good balance of warmth, joy, and reverence. We do not want to waste your time with a fashion or tech show or with a "Christian" version of amusement, "positivity," or pop-psychology. Come ready to hear and respond to God's Word with God at the center.
We have a good mixture of people from much of Northern Virginia. Some are old, young, single, married, born in the USA, or born in another country. Some dress up, and some dress semi-casual. Some raise their hands when they sing, some don't. Some write copious notes during the sermon, and others just listen and use the bulletin later in their devotions. The Gospel unites all sorts of people in Christ, and that is much of the beauty of the local church.
Families are welcome and encouraged to include their children with them during the worship service. There is childcare available during the service for up to age six, but many families keep their children with them to be a part of the gathered church. We believe children see and take in far more than we realize. Where else can they regularly see a small foretaste of the eternity we desire for them than by being with the gathered church on the Lord's day? God has given us a multi-generational church, and we thank Him for it!
We are a church in which you can know everyone and have community as a family. Being in a transient area, our attendance and membership fluctuates. If you would like, you can meet a few people after the service during the cookie reception and maybe join someone for lunch. We'll be glad to help you get connected with others.
We hope to see you soon!
